HISTORY
Bunseikaku traces its origins to 1897, when the founder began a publishing business in Yushima, Tokyo. The name expressed his wish to shine like a star in the world of publishing and help literature reach more people.
After wartime disruption, the business was re-established as Bunseikaku Printing in Ookayama, Ota City, in 1948. Beginning with letterpress, it adopted offset printing in 1962 and grew alongside Japan’s postwar recovery.
Investment from the 1970s expanded our multicolor and spot-color capabilities. In the 1980s, we began researching and introducing waterless printing to combine fine detail with environmental responsibility, steadily refining the process with our press operators.
In 1993, the fifth generation of the founding family became president at the age of 30. With a vision of raising the standing of printing companies in society, he made waterless printing and environmental action central to the business and helped establish the Japan Waterless Printing Association.
In the 2000s, we introduced DTP and CTP, developed outsourced print production services, and optimized the full process from prepress to printing. We built our role as a printing company for printing companies, combining expertise with speed.
In 2019, our headquarters and factory moved to Showajima. The installation of the world’s first 12-color UV perfecting press and a round-the-clock production system marked another step forward.
The pandemic brought our largest loss since founding in 2020. From the following year, a new management team, including a CSO and outside directors, drove changes in evaluation, organization, recruitment, digital operations and new business development.
Today, under the banner “Beyond Printing,” we continue connecting our founding ambition with the factory floor, and reconnecting paper with society.

Our FUTURE
▼ Our slogan
Charting a new course for printing
Beyond Printing | Print for the Future
▼ Our voyage
We are setting out from the familiar shores of printing into the wider information industry. Building on 500 years of printing culture, we change systems, bring people together and create value beyond industry boundaries. We rethink our organization and how we work, taking responsibility for shaping both. Sharing our ambitions and valuing freedom, we are creating the future of print.
▼ Mission
• Support industry and society as a printing factory for printing companies.
• Build a lasting future for print through Print Navigator and digital transformation.
• Pass skills and knowledge to the next generation and create a culture where people can take on new challenges.
▼ Vision
Print for the Future.
For our customers, for printing culture,
and for people and the planet.
We aspire to redefine what a printing company can be.
▼ Our strengths
1. Printing expertise | Equipment, training and quality
Our quality does not depend on experience alone. Eight offset presses are supported by structured technical training and evaluation, helping every operator work to the same standard. From multicolor and UV to waterless printing, we pursue consistency across a wide range of projects.
2. Production capability | Judgment, flexibility and round-the-clock operation
Our skilled operators and 24-hour, 355-day production schedule underpin our factory. Urgent work, complex requirements and specification changes call for practical judgment. We keep asking how a job can be achieved, then see it through.
3. Sales and planning | Thinking beyond the printed sheet
Our sales team understands print, promotion, planning and digital media. We propose practical approaches that match each project’s purpose, with attention to how advertising, entertainment and campaign materials will actually be used.
4. In-house digital development | Systems built around the factory
We develop systems that connect orders, estimates, progress tracking, plate release and inventory. Our systems team understands production workflows and continually improves the tools people use. Print Navigator is at the heart of this connection between print and digital operations.
5. Speed and integrity | Responsive, coordinated and accountable
We value prompt replies, decisions and arrangements, with close coordination across departments. Taking responsibility through to completion makes us a company customers can turn to with confidence. We respond quickly when problems arise.
▼ Philosophy | Ambition, freedom and responsibility
Ambition
Keep culture flourishing and move forward with a purpose.
Look for ways to make things possible.
Freedom
Access information, share ideas and take action.
Work is something we help create.
Responsibility
Keep learning, face our responsibilities to society and the environment, and choose printing that contributes to people and the planet.
▼ The journey ahead
There is no map for a new voyage.
But we have a purpose, a crew and a responsibility to carry culture forward.
Bunseikaku will remain a printing company while reaching beyond printing.
That is our future.
