Bunseikaku is a printing company based in Showajima, Ota City, Tokyo, with a history spanning 78 years. From CD jackets and artist merchandise to books and cards, we specialize in work where color and finish matter. Our factory, one of the largest in Tokyo, focuses on platemaking and printing. With multicolor expertise built around five- and six-color presses, and an established commitment to waterless printing, we take on demanding creative projects. Our in-house Print Navigator system brings estimating, ordering and production tracking online, while KP-Connect and digital workflow tools make factory operations visible. We preserve the distinctive texture of print while developing the systems and ways of working that will carry it into the next generation.

Bunseikaku traces its origins to 1897, when the founder began a publishing business in Yushima, Tokyo. The name expressed his wish to shine like a star in the world of publishing and help literature reach more people.
After wartime disruption, the business was re-established as Bunseikaku Printing in Ookayama, Ota City, in 1948. Beginning with letterpress, it adopted offset printing in 1962 and grew alongside Japan’s postwar recovery.
Investment from the 1970s expanded our multicolor and spot-color capabilities. In the 1980s, we began researching and introducing waterless printing to combine fine detail with environmental responsibility, steadily refining the process with our press operators.
In 1993, the fifth generation of the founding family became president at the age of 30. With a vision of raising the standing of printing companies in society, he made waterless printing and environmental action central to the business and helped establish the Japan Waterless Printing Association.
In the 2000s, we introduced DTP and CTP, developed outsourced print production services, and optimized the full process from prepress to printing. We built our role as a printing company for printing companies, combining expertise with speed.
In 2019, our headquarters and factory moved to Showajima. The installation of the world’s first 12-color UV perfecting press and a round-the-clock production system marked another step forward.
The pandemic brought our largest loss since founding in 2020. From the following year, a new management team, including a CSO and outside directors, drove changes in evaluation, organization, recruitment, digital operations and new business development.
Today, under the banner “Beyond Printing,” we continue connecting our founding ambition with the factory floor, and reconnecting paper with society.

Our factory specializes in platemaking and printing. We work with external partners for cutting, binding and other finishing processes, focusing our own resources on the quality of the printed sheet.
We operate 24 hours a day, 355 days a year. Our fleet centers on five- and six-color presses and includes four perfecting presses. We handle color-critical CD jackets, books, artist merchandise and cards.
KP-Connect and our in-house production management tools give us a real-time view of work across the factory. By combining experienced craftsmanship with data, we are building repeatable quality into our systems.
